Frequently Asked Questions

When you drop a bombshell like, "I'm moving to England," expect to be asked a few questions. Here are some of the more frequently asked questions and a few answers to match.

1. Where will you be living in England?

My headquarters for the first 12 days will be a London hostel. After that it'll be anywhere I can find and afford. The preference is begin renting a room in a fully furnished apartment with bills included. Buckingham Palace is more of a long term goal.

2. Have you got a job lined up yet?

At this stage when I move to England I'll be between jobs and homes. I'm hoping to find a job before I arrive in the motherland. The goal is to find employment in the Arts industry.

3. Have you started packing?

I've started putting a few items together that I won't be needing before I leave. I've almost filled a suitcase and I haven't even looked at shoes, winter apparel and accessories. Packing isn't the toughest part of moving overseas. It's culling your personal possessions to 37kg, including carry on.

4. When do you leave?

I leave for China on June 8, then fly from Shanghai to London on June 12.

5. How long are you moving for?

This is probably something you could place bets on. I'm officially moving indefinitely, which could mean anywhere from 1 year to forever. My ancestry visa entitles me to live in England for 5 years, then apply for another 5 years, then apply to stay permanently. I'm pretty keen to do this, as long as I find a decent job, home and a few friends.

6. Are you going by yourself?

I'm moving over with Samantha, who I lived with in America. On June 6 she's flying over to Australia from her current home in New Zealand. Then we'll take on the uncomfortable long haul flights together

7. Have you got everything organised?

The short answer is no. The long answer is nooooooo.

I guess I better stop blogging and start organising.
