Generator Hostel

Initially apprehensive about staying in a hostel, I can not recommend Generator Hostel enough.

Don't be put off by the stairs at the entrance. A friendly stranger or member of staff will be nearby to help.

Samantha and I stayed in a room with a bunk bed, sink, desk and small table. (Please excuse the eleven days of mess.)

There's also a little hanging space and enough floor space to do a little Pilates, if you feel that way inclined. We did not.

This was our view.

The room was on the Dr Who level. A show in which I have no interest, but I'm sure many others do.

For an increased price you can opt for a private bathroom. Samantha and I decided to save our pennies and go for the shared bathroom. It takes me back to the awkwardness of school camps. Just remember your thongs, a plastic bag for your belongings and a positive attitude about all the money you're saving.

The room was quite stuffy during this heatwave, but so was everywhere else in London. Also, bring a little extra money to buy towels, or bring one with you, if you're lucky enough to have room in your luggage.

Upon check in we were asked if we wanted to purchase a number of breakfasts at a slightly reduced rate. We weren't sure of the quality of the breakfasts and didn't want to make a commitment, so we didn't buy any. Well, that was a mistake. Almost every morning I had a meaty breakfast.

The other mornings I had the oats.

This Generator Hostel also has its own laundry facilities, which does cost a few coins for the convenience. It's also a great place to use your new "clean laundry bag".

You can also get involved in night activities like beer pong and karaoke if you're not completely exhausted and trying to start a new life. If you're a little more low key you can enjoy the chill out area.

The Generator Hostel is full of friendly staff and in a convenient location near King's Cross station. It's also close to pubs and food locations, like London's better answer to Starbucks - Pret A Manger - there's like two on every corner. You can also find a few Starbucks locations.

I'm a little sad to be saying goodbye to Generator. My next hotel doesn't have fabulous or even average reviews. If everyone could say a little prayer for me as I move on that would be excellent. In return I will keep you updated.
