London Explorers

Back when Samantha and I were living in a London hostel on a budget, we found lots of free adventures.

It all started on Primrose Hill where Samantha's friend Aimee was hostng her birthday picnic. We were invited. This hill is not something you just stumble upon. It's quite steep and high. The pay off for the trek up is the view. And also the increased step count because walking is free.

The following day Aimee kindly offered to be our tour guide. Being my first time in the city, I was very grateful.

Our first stop was Picadilly Circus.

Of course there was an obligatory phone booth photo. If you don't get a photo with a phone booth have you even really been to London?

Buckingham Palace came next. Unfortunately a royal bachelor did not come to greet me. I really should've played up the whole damsel in distress thing.

This was followed by the purchase of water  in an attempt to thwart the intense heat and a stroll through St James Park.

Next on the London tour was Trafalgar Square. I'd be lion if I said it was the mane attraction.

That was reserved for Big Ben, who is getting on in age, so undergoing a little facelift to maintain his photogenic looks. He appears to have maintained his figure quite well.

The London Eye is another free attraction... to look at. Eye spy with my little eye, expensive ticket prices if you want to ride.

We burnt calories, as the sun tried to burn my skin, on the way to the South Bank.

As someone who makes a sub par sandcastle, I was highly impressed with this sculpture.

We walked a little further until we reached some buskers. Aimee has managed to become friends with pretty much every busker in London. Samantha and I felt pretty cool being introduced to a few buskers before they showed off their smooth sounds. We met Andy, Mark and Alex.

We concluded our day with a walk across Millennium bridge to a Nando's meal that was much spicier than expected, and forced me to buy unlimited frozen yoghurt.

On the way we saw St Paul's Cathedral. I would've fed the birds, but I didn't have tuppence.

Stay tuned for the next post including even more free London activities.
