Tour of London
Check out a few more (mostly free) things that Samantha and I got up to while living in a London hostel.
Regents Park
It might seem like just another park at first, but there's so much to explore.
There's the standard grass and fountains.
There's also Queen Mary's Garden. Not great for hay fever, but a great feast for the eyes.
You might even spot some ducklings.
Samantha and I stumbled across the Open Air Theatre and bought tickets for On The Town.
This beautiful production was filled with funny moments, well executed choreography, and fabulous use of the levels in the set. Sure, this wasn't free, but the money was worth it. They have different priced seating, which increases depending on the location of your seat. We selected one of the lower prices, but enjoyed great, unobstructed views.
This entire evening was a treat. First there was ice-cream.
Then Samantha and I each enjoyed a glass of Pimm's. A refreshing, fruity cocktail that tastes just like a British summer.
Abbey Road
We were in the neighbourhood, so thought we'd visit Abbey Road studios.
You do have to cross the road to get there.
Once you've reached the other side you can explore the shop, and add a little Beatles love to the wall.
Maida Vale also got a look in this day.
Regents Canal
The Regents Canal provides some lovely scenery when venturing back to your hostel for free via your own two feet.
Pop Brixton
Samantha and I couldn't contain excitement at this trendy place in Brixton, made entirely out of shipping containers and hipster vibes.
We grabbed some lamb skewers and caught the end of a free dance performance on stage.
Wellcome Collection
There was this guy Henry Wellcome.
He was a bit of a hoarder. View a sample of some of the many strange, interesting and slightly creepy things he kept.
They also house changing exhibitions. We checked out Electricity: The Spark of Life.
British Museum
A visit to the air conditioned British Museum on a sweltering summer day was sublime. Once we were on the lower levels, that is. Upstairs we were feeling a little light headed.
Make every second count here.
Then suss out a variety of objects I can never afford, like ornate ice-cream vessels and fancy vases.
British Library
Window shopping in the gift shop was both free and interesting. Following this we investigated the library's free exhibition.
Enjoy the air conditioning while perusing a fantastic variety of historical music, literature and cartography, among other things.
Keep your eyes peeled for even more British Adventures.
